Creating Desktop Shortcuts

Everybody needs desktop shortcuts. How many you have will depend on how many different programs you use on a regular basis. Some programs make a shortcut for you when you install the program. For others you must create it yourself.

This is a fairly simple operation and although it only needs to be done once for each program you regularly use, you will need to use it each time you install a program you intend to use regularly.

First decide what program you wish to put on the desktop. Look at the screenshot below

As you can see, there is no shortcut for my most used program, Microsoft Word. So I want to create one. First locate the program in All Programs

Start All Programs

Point to the program and right click on it.

right click on the selected program

Look at the menu options and go to Send To. There is another option on that list which could cause confusion called Create Shortcut. Although, this sounds like what we want do not click this option.

Instead, use the Send To option and then Desktop (Create Shortcut)

When the menus clear you will have created a shortcut for your selected program

Therefore, the first thing we do before we import a set of digital pictures is set up a folder into which we will put them. These folders will be our digital photo albums

After you set up your folders, it's time to download digital photos you have taken and store them for sorting and viewing

With your photos downloaded to your folder, you will want to view them. You can use your computer as a photo viewer

There are a number of programs that you will regularly use to view and edit your photos. You will need to create desktop shortcuts to these programs. This avoids having to go Start / All Programs and then select the program each time you need it. Learn how to create
